Types of Air Conditioners: Wall, Cassette, Concealed or Floor Standing?

Not every space suits the same type of air conditioner. Picking the right type from the start saves you money and a lot of installation headaches later.

1. Wall-mounted (split)

The most common type. Mounted on the wall and suited to bedrooms and living rooms in apartments and villas.

Pros: lowest price and installation cost, easier maintenance, and available in every capacity from 1.5 to 5 HP.

Cons: visible on the wall, and it blows in one direction, so it is not ideal for long or partitioned spaces.

2. Cassette

Installed into a suspended ceiling and distributes air in four directions. Suited to shops, restaurants, offices and clinics.

Pros: even air distribution, excellent for wide spaces, clean look, and it takes up no wall space.

Cons: requires an existing suspended ceiling, and installation is more complex and more expensive.

3. Concealed (ducted)

Installed completely hidden inside the ceiling, with air delivered through ducts to outlets placed where you choose.

Pros: nothing is visible except the air outlets, so it is the best-looking option, and one unit can serve more than one room.

Cons: it has to be planned during the finishing stage, and maintenance is harder because the unit sits above the ceiling.

4. Floor standing

A free-standing floor unit that delivers very strong airflow. Suited to receptions, shops and large halls.

Pros: fast, powerful cooling, and it needs no wall mounting or suspended ceiling.

Cons: it takes up floor space, and it is mostly available only in larger capacities.
